Autumn Fun and Fundraising at Halliford School

2nd November 26

The first half of the Autumn Term has been filled with warmth, generosity and creativity at Halliford School, as the community came together to enjoy two cherished traditions: the annual Harvest Festival Collection and the Inter-House Pumpkin Carving Competition.

The celebrations began with the school’s Harvest Festival Collection, led by Charity Prefect, James. The initiative encouraged members of the Halliford community to donate non-perishable food and essential household items in support of local food bank Bags of Food at Jubilee Church in Shepperton, reinforcing the school’s commitment to helping those in need.

The response was truly remarkable. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of students, staff and families, an impressive 25 boxes of donations were collected, containing a fantastic array of food and household items. The outstanding contribution reflects the strong sense of social responsibility and community spirit that lies at the heart of Halliford School.

Creativity then took centre stage with the eagerly anticipated Inter-House Pumpkin Carving Competition. Students demonstrated tremendous imagination and skill, producing a selection of inventive and beautifully crafted designs. In keeping with Halliford’s focus on sustainability, participants were encouraged to carve, cook and grow for a greener tomorrow. Families were also provided with a selection of pumpkin-inspired recipes to help reduce waste and make the most of the seasonal produce.

The finished creations were proudly displayed in the Courtyard, where Dr Sachania faced the difficult challenge of selecting the winners or ‘pumpkings’. After much deliberation, the results were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Hassan in 9R for his munching monster design
  • 2nd Place: James in 9W for his monochromatic contrast design
  • 3rd Place: Oscar in 8R for his gumball machine design
  • Sustainability Prize: Rayen in 9G for his delicious pumpkin doughnuts

Congratulations to all our talented entrants, as well as Russell House, Wadham House and Greville House for their success. Special thanks go to Ms Hetherington for organising the competition and to everyone who contributed to making these events such a wonderful celebration of creativity, compassion and community spirit.
