At Halliford School we are proud of our aim to make every student the best version of themselves that they can be, and this is never more true than it is in Music. We pride ourselves on embracing all styles of Music and support every student in developing their own unique, musical voice, whatever that might be. To facilitate this we enjoy running a very active co-curricular timetable and concert calendar, as outlined below:

This list can be subject to change as we pride ourselves on following the needs of our pupils and adapting accordingly when necessary.

Co-curricular Clubs

Instrumental Tuition

Tuition is offered in the following instruments:

  • Voice (all styles)
  • Piano (all styles)
  • Strings (to include violin, viola, cello and double bass)
  • Woodwind (to include flute, clarinet and saxophone)
  • Brass (to include cornet, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, euphonium and tuba)
  • Guitar (to include, classical, acoustic, electric, bass and ukulele)
  • Drums (to include percussion)

Boys taking graded examinations may do so with ABRSM, Trinity or Rock School, or may opt not to follow the exam route. Our department staff all give generously of their time and support pupils with their studies outside of classroom and extra curricular time.

  • The department enjoys running residential tours with pupils have performed in Paris, New York, at the Edinburgh Festival and, most recently, the Rhineland Germany.
  • School Musicals (past productions include “The Great Gatsby”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Blood Brothers” and, most recently “School of Rock”)
  • Assembly performances and hymn practices
  • Examination, GCSE and A Level Recitals
  • Feeder School Workshops


Students who excel may be awarded scholarships, prefect status and/or music colours.
