The Empathy Lab is a not-for-profit organisation that carries out research on developing empathy through reading. Each year, they release a collection of books for young people that have been chosen by a panel of judges made up of national experts and practitioners working in school libraries and public libraries. Each title is chosen to do a specific ‘empathy-building’ job. The release of this year’s reading week coincided with Empathy Awareness Week. We have collated our ‘Reading for Empathy’ titles and many of these are available to download via the Library Web App or borrow from the Library. We have also created a dedicated Empathy Dashboard where students can access more information on developing empathy. Students may find some of the topics in these books difficult or upsetting and are encouraged to discuss them with a trusted adult.
