Moving into Sixth Form is a significant step — more independence, greater academic depth, and the beginning of the journey toward university or a chosen career. The well-established co-educational Sixth Form at Halliford School is designed to make the transition both exciting and well supported.
Why is the Sixth Form co-educational?
While Halliford’s senior school is for boys aged 11–16, the Sixth Form warmly welcomes girls alongside boys from the age of 16. This creates a more balanced, mature learning environment that reflects the world beyond school. Girls who join at this stage consistently report feeling welcomed into the Halliford community very quickly.
What subjects can students choose?
Sixth Form students choose from a wide range of A Level subjects, including sciences, humanities, creative arts, business, economics, psychology, and more. Small teaching groups mean students receive close attention from subject specialists, and the school’s track record of strong A Level results, including students progressing to top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, speaks for itself.
How does Halliford develop student leaders?
Halliford’s most recent ISI inspection highlighted Pupil Leadership as a Significant Strength, and much of that development happens in the Sixth Form. Students can take on roles as prefects, mentors, and house captains, building skills in responsibility and teamwork that universities and employers value highly.
Dedicated careers advice and university preparation run throughout the Sixth Form years. From personal statement support and interview practice to talks by visiting speakers, students are carefully guided through the UCAS process and beyond. The school’s university destinations list reflects a wide spread of excellent institutions.
The Sixth Form is not all about exams. Students continue to enjoy sport, music, drama, Duke of Edinburgh, community service, and trips. These experiences round out a Sixth Form life that is challenging, sociable, and genuinely enjoyable.
