Following a very successful recruitment process, the Governors of Halliford School are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Amlot, who will take up the position of Headmaster in January 2027.
Mr Amlot is currently Deputy Head and Designated Safeguarding Lead at King’s College School, Wimbledon, and brings 25 years of experience as an English teacher and school leader across both the maintained and independent sectors. Prior to this, he held a number of senior roles at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, including Deputy Head (Pastoral) and Head of Sixth Form. Across his career, he has developed systems to support student wellbeing, progress, and engagement, led significant improvements in teaching and learning, and strengthened university admissions processes.
In addition to his leadership roles, Mr Amlot is a Team Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate and serves as a Governor in both the state and independent sectors. He writes regularly for educational publications and speaks at conferences, contributing to wider professional dialogue about the future of education. A passionate advocate for an education that nurtures identity, purpose, character, and future-ready skills, he brings a clear and thoughtful vision to his work.
Mr Amlot read Theology at Mansfield College, Oxford, before completing his PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge. He is married to Belita, and they have two children. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, running, theatre, windsurfing and skiing.
He has spoken warmly of the strong sense of community, the quality of relationships, and the individualised care he observed during his visits to the school. He regards his appointment as a great privilege and very much looks forward to getting to know all students, staff, and parents.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Amlot said:
“It is a tremendous privilege to have been appointed as the next Headmaster of Halliford School. On my visits thus far, I have been inspired by the strong sense of community, the quality of relationships, and the personalised care shown to each student. I greatly look forward to getting to know students, staff and parents in the months ahead, and to leading the school in its next chapter.”
Between now and January 2027, Mr Amlot will work closely with the Governing Body, Dr Sachania, our Interim Headmaster, and all senior leaders to ensure a smooth transition.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr Davies for his outstanding service and commitment over the past nine years. His leadership has helped to shape and strengthen the school, leaving a lasting legacy and firm foundations for the future. We wish him every success and happiness as he takes up the Headship at Wells Cathedral School.
At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Mr Amlot as our new Headmaster. We look forward to his leadership as he builds on the strong foundations established by James. We are confident that the school will go from strength to strength under his direction. Please join us in warmly welcoming Richard to Halliford School.
