Politics

A Level

A Level Politics invites us to explore some of the most important questions facing modern democracies: Who holds power? How should it be exercised? How can citizens influence political change? Through the study of contemporary political institutions, ideas and debates, we develop a deeper understanding of the political systems that shape our lives. We examine the key features of UK and US government and politics, comparing the different ways in which these systems have developed and how power operates and is constrained within both countries. We also study the core political ideologies of Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism, delving into the principles and values that underpin these, and investigate Feminism, looking at how feminist thinkers have challenged traditional assumptions about power, equality and representation.  A Level Politics is about questioning assumptions, evaluating competing ideas and understanding the forces that shape the world around us, creating thinkers who develop the knowledge, analytical skills and intellectual independence needed for success.
