Pastoral Care

How does Halliford School support the wellbeing of our students?

The health and wellbeing of our students are paramount to everything we do at Halliford. Providing a safe, caring foundation on which our students can flourish. We encourage students to develop emotionally, socially and physically and further develop their understanding of themselves.

Central to our pastoral care is the partnership we develop with families. When your child joins us, we will engage in a continual dialogue to ensure that the care we provide is collaborative, proactive and personal.

Our students are designated a House that will act as both pastoral support and also a community throughout their time at the School. Houses have a tutor in each year group and a Head of House. We have a Director of Student Welfare, Mr Matt Shales, who is responsible with the Deputy Head Pastoral and Heads of Houses for looking after the needs of our student body, including mental health support alongside our specialist school counsellor.

In addition, we have a Head of Year for Year 7, Mr Matt Fieldhouse, to ensure our new students have a positive transition into the School. Likewise, we have a Head of Sixth Form, Mr Andy Carroll, to support our Sixth Form students for those important final two years of their school career.

The most important figure in your child’s pastoral life will be their tutor, who will know them most closely and will forge excellent relationships with parents.

How does Halliford School support student wellbeing?

Pastoral care is a real strength of the school. Because Halliford is small, every student is genuinely known by their teachers and support staff. The school has a dedicated wellbeing suite, a Matron’s medical room, and a structured pastoral programme that runs throughout a student’s time at the school. Parents also have a strong community through the PTA.

What makes Halliford stand out among independent schools in Middlesex and Surrey?

Families comparing independent schools in Middlesex and Surrey often point to Halliford’s size as its defining quality. With around 480 students, the school is small enough to know everyone, but large enough to offer excellent facilities, a broad curriculum, and a full programme of sport and activities. It is a school where your child will not get lost in the crowd, and where they will be pushed to be the best version of themselves. The best way to judge whether it is the right fit is to book a visit.
