Duke of Edinburgh Weekend

17th May 21

Well done to our DofE students who have just completed a full weekend of training for their upcoming expeditions. We are overjoyed to see our students preparing for the Duke of Edinburgh award and learning the skills needed to enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly. These training days were an intense introduction to the award for our Year 9 bronze students, who dealt with 2 days of rain and wind. The bronze participants walked over 14 kilometres around the local area using OS maps and navigating in small groups. The Sunday saw them build on these core skills and learn how to efficiently put up tents, use Trangia camping stoves for cooking and much more. Our Year 10 silver award cohort joined us for the Sunday and experienced the worst of the weather, but who made the most of our instructor’s knowledge as they had a skills refresher and route planning session. Well done to all involved!
