Capital Projects

At Halliford School, we understand the importance of providing state-of-the-art facilities that support our students’ learning experiences. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, as we continuously invest in capital projects designed to improve our school site and create an environment where our students can thrive. You can read about our most recent capital projects below.

  • New DT Workshop and redevelopment of the existing workshop
  • New Dining Hall called The Forum, as named by our students
  • New Drama Studio
  • Matron’s Medical Room and Wellbeing Suite
  • Refurbishment work to the Theatre
  • Refurbishment work to the existing Dining Room and Kitchens

With Design and Technology an ever-popular subject amongst our students, our most recent project involved creating two state-of-the-art DT Workshops alongside our two design suites, featuring the latest 3D printers and technical design software.

In 2024, we developed a brand new dining room and theatre lobby alongside refurbishment work to both the John Crook Theatre and the existing dining room and kitchens. Ask anyone about Halliford School, and our food is always close to the top of their list of recommendations! When we erected the marquee to continue providing hot food during the pandemic, we decided to keep it afterwards, seeing an opportunity to offer a more relaxed, convivial approach to lunchtimes at the school for our students. We were therefore delighted when our Governing Body gave the go-ahead to replace the marquee with a new permanent dining hall, which also offered us the opportunity to create a new multi-functional area at the front of the school to provide a lobby and creative space for drama and music. Thankfully, the planners at Spelthorne Council backed our scheme, and work commenced in February 2024.

The work saw us develop a new area for Matron on the ground floor of the cottage with the creation of a treatment room, a fully equipped wet room and a smart new wellbeing suite for use by our visiting counsellor, our ELSA provider Mrs Marismari and Mr Shales, our Director of Student Welfare. By Easter 2024, work began on providing new windows for the Theatre and on creating additional space in the kitchens ahead of the main building project, which commenced in July 2024.

We were delighted to start using the new dining room in November 2024, and our students were tasked with naming this amazing new space. The Forum was chosen, and we are enjoying our lunches and pre-event refreshments in this wonderful space. We had the honour of hosting Professor Robert Winston at a memorable event on 24th April 2025, as we welcomed him to officially open our magnificent new Forum building. As one of the leading authorities in biology and reproductive science, Professor Winston gave an enlightening presentation before officiating at the opening ceremony of the Forum.

We are delighted to share a time-lapse video of the build with you here:

Recent Capital Projects

  • The Woodward Building which houses our Learning Resource Centre, six new classrooms and departmental offices.
  • Newly sited athletics long jump on the sports field
  • Refurbishment of the Reception and Administration Office
  • Refurbishment of the Conference Room

The success of our capital projects relies on the input and support of our school community, including students, parents, alumni, and staff. Together, we can build a brighter future for our students and continue to provide exceptional learning experiences for generations to come.
