Battle of the Bands 2024

7th March 24

Last night, we hosted our annual Battle of the Bands, showcasing the incredible talent and passion of our young musicians. The event brought together students from all year groups, giving them an opportunity to perform, collaborate, and compete in a friendly environment.

The evening kicked off with a captivating performance of Seven Nation Army by the Year 7 Rock Band, setting the stage for an exciting night of music. The audience was treated to a wide range of musical genres, from rock and pop to rap and indie, as five bands competed for the coveted title of Best Band, amongst other titles.

Each band brought their unique style and energy to the stage, impressing the audience with their musical prowess. The Year 8/9 Rock Band performed a super version of Green Day’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and the Year 10/11 Rock Band delivered an electrifying performance of Eminem’s Lose Yourself. The competition was fierce, but the camaraderie among the bands was evident as they cheered each other on throughout the event.

As the night progressed, the audience was also treated to performances by the Lower Sixth Rock Band, with Rosanna on lead vocals, and the Senior Rock Band, where we enjoyed the soulful tones of Oscar. Their performances not only entertained the crowd but also served as an inspiration to the young musicians, demonstrating the potential for growth and success that lies ahead.

After much deliberation from the audience, who voted using our QR code system, Mr Wright announced the winners of this year’s Battle of the Bands.

  • Best Dressed Band – Year 7 Rock Band
  • Best Stage Presence – Year 10/11 Rock Band
  • Best Frontman – Billy, Year 10/11 Rock Band
  • Best Guitar Solo – Will, Senior Band for Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits
  • Bets Song – Year 7 Rock Band performing Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes
  • Best Band – Year 10/11 Rock Band

The Year 10/11 Rock Band’s innovative sound, combined with their infectious energy on stage, won over the audience, earning them the top spot of Best Band. Billy from our Year 10/11 Rock Band had a super evening as not only was he celebrating his Birthday, but he was voted Best Frontman, and his band won Best Stage Presence.

However, the true spirit of the event was not just about winning. It was about the celebration of music and the fostering of a supportive community. As Mr Wright, Director of Music, so aptly put it, “Battle of the Bands is about giving our students a platform to express themselves, share their talent and come together through the power of music.”

The Battle of the Bands has become a highly anticipated tradition at Halliford, not only for the entertainment it provides but also for the opportunities it creates for students to explore their musical talents, build confidence, and forge lasting friendships. With another successful event in the books, the school and its musicians eagerly await the next Battle of the Bands.
