As we enter the National Year of Reading, we will continue to motivate and inspire our students with a wide range of positive reading opportunities. Our new weekly themed book displays have seen an increase in borrowing of 40.3% compared to the same period last year. Students can’t help but stop and look at the amazing titles we have on offer.
Students who are working their way through the Halliford 100 can now track their progress with our Reading Passports. This will be kept with the Librarians and each time a student reads a book from the 100, they will receive a golden stamp in their passport.
We will once again be entering two teams into the National Reading Champions Quiz, hosted by the National Literacy Trust, in March. Students can register their interest now! We will also be hosting our in-house World Book Day Quiz hosted by Mr Hoare, also in March. Details about how students can enter will be available soon.
Alongside her Chocolate Challenge reads, Mrs Gillies is running an informal book-themed jigsaw puzzle club in the LRC on Fridays during lunchtime. No sign-up required. Once the 1000-piece puzzle is complete, students are challenged to name all 101 literary riddles hidden within the puzzle. I am sure we can find a bookish-themed prize for the student who can solve the most!
Year 7 students can look forward to our annual Story Museum trip to Oxford in the summer term. Hopefully, the weather will be on our side as we are treated to a tour of Oxford to see all the amazing sights that have inspired literary greats such C.S. Lewis and Katherine Rundell.
Due to the success of both the bookmark competition and the reading celebration tea party last summer, we are very excited to be running both events again. Details of these events will be shared later in the term.
Let’s all commit to making reading a priority this year. We have plenty of recommendations if you are not sure where to start! ... See MoreSee Less
Year 7 rounded the week off nicely with their Inter-House Rugby matches, and a rousing rendition of `Happy Birthday` for Mr Hewitt. Congratulations to Russell House on their win. #warmhearted #teamplayers
