Religious Studies

    In Religious Studies we aim to broaden your view of the world.  Religion saturates just about every society and continues to influence world events.  This subject encourages you to question, debate, discuss.   It should appeal to anyone with an enquiring mind and a thirst for knowledge.

    Years 7 - 9

    In lower school we concentrate mostly on the Abrahamic faiths: Christianity, Judaism and Islam. We also explore some of the main world religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and even religious cults.

    • Year 7 - The Old Testament & Judaism
    • Year 8 - The New Testament, Christianity and World Relgions
    • Year 9 - A study of Mark's Gospel, Islam and Cult Religions

    GCSE

    We study the Edexcel B qualification whish is in two istinct modules:

    • Year 10 - Christianity, Religion and Ethics
    • Year 11 - Islam Religion, Peace and Conflict

    A Level

    We study a three part OCR course: Philosophy of Religion, Religions and Ethics and Christianity.

    There are three examinations, lasting 1hr 15 each.

    Tours and Trips

    We are developing more field trips for our department every year.  However, this year we have taken our GCSE students to visit a Mosque and our local church.  Our A Level students have had the chance to study Philosophy at Eton with the Head of Theology.

    We have the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, coming to discuss his life in 2018. 

    Future plans include a trip to Israel and closer to home regular visits to Canterbury and Guildford Cathedrals.
