Duke of Edinburgh Award

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end.  You just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there's more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.

You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition.

You will find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills and going on an expedition.  Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing, and along the way you'll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

For further information please speak to Halliford's DofE Leader, Mr Heeney.

    Bronze

You can do a Bronze DofE programme once you're in Year 10.  The programme has 4 sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition.  You must do a minimum of 3 months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a 2 day (1 night) Expedition.

You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections.  It is your choice as to which one you do and, although you can change your mind later, you should decide on which section you want to do for longer at the beginning of the programme.  This will help you choose your activity and set goals for each section.

It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.

    Silver

The next step up from Bronze is Silver and you need to be at least 15 to start your Silver DofE programme.  Halliford opens the Silver Award to Year 11 and 6th Form.  If you've achieved your Bronze Award, you may be allowed to start your Silver programme a month or two before your 15th birthday.

A Silver DofE programme has 4 sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedtition.  You need to do at least 6 months Volunteering and a minimum of 6 months on either Physical or Skills and 3 months on the other.  It is your choice on which one you do for longer.

If you did Bronze, you can choose the same activity for Silver, but you need to show development in it - ideally it's best to try something new!  The Expedition section involves planning, training for and doing a 3 day (2 night) expedtiion.

If you start your Silver without doing Bronze first you will have to do an extra 6 months volunteering or doing whichever of the Physical or Skills sections you have chosen to spend more time on.  Although you can change your mind later, You should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning as this will help you to set your goals for each section.

It will take you at least 6 months for Silver if you have already achieved Bronze, or 12 months if you've jumped straight into Silver.
