Drama

    Introduction

The Drama department at Halliford is active with varying different events all year round that engage and enthuse students. The department is run by Roberto Bruno (Head of Drama) and Phillip Abbott (Theatre Technician).  The 300+ seat theatre is the hub of the department and you will often find students performing on stage, working behind the scenes or in the lighting box. It is a community where everyone gets involved and everyone is equal.

    Years 7 - 9

In KS3 all students have one lesson a week in the theatre. Our focus is to build confidence and empower our students with skills they can use in all walks of life. Drama is a popular subject at Halliford and students are eager to take part in performances and showcase their skills.

KS3 lessons are split into three sections over a school year with students studying Movement, Devised work and a set text each for a term.

    GCSE

At GCSE students are encouraged to explore themselves as a performer or designer. We work hard together to develop our skills and become independent practitioners in our own right. Students will have 4 periods of Drama a week and will often be in the theatre at lunch and after school for extra rehearsals.  We currently follow the OCR syllabus of work which entails students to develop their devising skills, their understanding of play texts and live theatre performances.

    A Level

At A Level Drama students work incredibly hard to create their own original performances amd gain a greater understanding of the theatre as a whole.  We currently study under the OCR syllabus of work which the students find engaging and challenging.

    School Productions

Every year there is a major school production. Recent productions have included Goodnight Mister Tom, One Man Two Governors, The Great Gatsby and The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Pupils are involved in all aspects of the production as actors, backstage crew, technicians and in painting scenery and making props. At Halliford we aim to involve the maximum number of pupils in whatever capacity best showcases their talents.

    Theatre Trips and Excursions

We often plan evening theatre trips in Drama which involve a meal together at a local restaurant followed by a jam packed evening of performance.  We also go on residential trips to experience theatre in different countries/cities such as New York.
